ACHNE Committee Updates: Grants, Advocacy, and More!
Committee Updates:
Membership:
Exciting updates from the ACHNE Members At-Large Group! We've been busy reaching out to former members and inviting them back to experience the vibrant community at ACHNE! Our monthly to bi-monthly meetings have been a delightful blend of fun and friendship, where we've connected while learning about our ACHNE SWAG store, showcasing awesome shirts, t-shirts, and other gear featuring our logo! Plus, we're gearing up for an exciting upcoming AI initiative in June in Columbia, South Carolina, that promises to bring transformative insights to our practice. We've encouraged our members to run for leadership positions, ensuring that every voice is heard in shaping our future. And don't forget to join the conversation on social media! We invite all friends to connect with us on our ACHNE Facebook page and be part of our journey. Let's keep pushing boundaries together—there's so much more to do!
Research:
The Research Committee meets every fourth Friday of the month from 1 pm-2 pm EST. If you want to join us, go to your member profile and update your committee preferences to secure monthly invites through your calendar. We are pleased to announce that the deadline for the 2025 Research and EBP Grant Proposals has passed. We received a strong pool of applications, and the review process is currently underway. We are also revving up for the Annual Institute (AI), offering members a plenary session entitled Interfacing the Padlet 2.0 for Competency Measurement.
Make sure to carve out time at the AI to meet with us if you cannot attend our meetings. We are a supportive and helpful group of scholars eager to advance nursing science and translate evidence to classroom and community/public health settings.
Policy:
The ACHNE policy committee collaborates on policy advocacy with the Nursing Community Coalition (NCC) and the Alliance of Nurses for Healthy Environments. Please review the 2024 contributions of ACHNE to NCC advocacy for more information.
The policy committee has developed advocacy statements that are currently under review by the Executive Committee. Once they’re approved, we will share with the members.
The advocacy pillar of ACHNE’s CALM strategic plan includes a few key objectives -- one is to improve the confidence of members in their ability to teach advocacy to reduce health disparities and promote health equity. To meet this objective, the policy committee polled members in June 2023 and had a 10% response rate (n = 27). At this year’s AI in June 2024, we will poll members again and aim for a higher response rate.
